Gooey rainbow grilled cheese sandwiches are going viral

These gooey over-the-top rainbow grilled cheese sandwiches or "unicorn toasties" are the latest internet food sensation

Somewhere over the rainbow, at Hong Kong's Kala Toast to be exact, there's a rainbow grilled cheese sandwich that is following in the footsteps of Brooklyn's famous rainbow bagel and is becoming the latest internet food sensation.

Dubbed a "unicorn toastie," the sandwich is filled with multi-colored melted cheeses flavored with lavender (purple), basil (green) and tomato (red).

The yellow color comes from a blend of mozzarella, cheddar, Swiss Emmental and Gruyere cheeses, according to Instagram user hkfoodiexblogger.

Customers can order a regular "KALAful choice" or a king-size version that has an extra portion of cheese, but that may not help the taste that much.

Unfortunately, the sandwich didn't receive a favorable review from hkfoodiexblogger:

"The toast was crispy but I reckon both the flavour of the lavender and tomato were subtle. The basil flavour was the most outstanding one comparatively but the cheese flavour still was not as storing as my expectation. It was also a bit oily in general. I would say the quality was rather average but we all cannot deny that it is photogenic."

In other words, the rainbow grilled cheese sandwich is meh and not a fairy tale come true. But it sure is pretty. Or gross. Or both. We haven't decided on that one yet. What do you think?
