
It may be the year of the snake in China, but the United Nations is calling 2013 “the international year of the quinoa,” thanks to a proposal from the Bolivian government. Meant to encourage the ancient grain’s growth in food-scarce countries, they hope the designation will “focus world attention on the role that quinoa’s biodiversity and nutritional value plays in providing food security and nutrition.”
