"So this happened" may be overused by your snarkier Facebook friends, but never did it seem more apt than in sharing this video of 80-year-old Yoko Ono and The Flaming Lips, rocking "Late Show With David Letterman."
Ono and her Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band, featuring her son Sean Lennon, have a new album called "Take Me to the Land of Hell." "Oh my goodness, what a trip that would be," Letterman said, perhaps not knowing just how trippy even the next four minutes were about to be.
Wearing sunglasses and a fedora tilted atop her head, Ono delivered a rousing version of the band's song "Cheshire Cat Cry." Most of it consisted of a lot of howling and shouts of "stop the violence" and "stop all wars." It's worth listening to the studio version.
Flaming Lips lead singer Wayne Coyne practically stole the show without even standing up. Seated cross-legged next to Ono, he played the first minute of the song covered in a black hood. He played the rest blaring a megaphone as Ono screeched and held up a peace sign with her fingers.
A chuckling Letterman did his post-performance walk over thing to thank the band and could hardly contain himself. "I tell ya, it's fun when you leave the theater humming the music from the show, isn't it?"
