Graham Norton pranks Emma Stone with Spice Girls trick

When it comes to the Spice Girls, Emma Stone is an easy target. While touring the world to promote her upcoming "Amazing Spider-Man 2" movie, she's made no secret of her love for the 1990s girl band. But during an interview on BBC's "The Graham Norton Show," she got a lot less than she'd hoped for.

While sharing a couch with "Spider-Man" co-stars Andrew Garfield and Jamie Foxx, Stone talked about her Spice Girls obsession, which she insisted was real. "They taught me about girl power, and I love them," she said.

Norton then got her to admit that while she'd had some near-misses with the Girls during her "Spider-Man" promotional tour recently, Stone had never actually met a Spice Girl in the flesh.

"As you know Emma, it's very rare for more than one Spice Girl to appear together for any reason at all," said Norton, and a dramatic drum roll began. "So, they're not here."

Stone, who had been revved up for a possible in-person meeting, flung herself back against the couch in disappointment.

"That is so mean!" cried TODAY's Savannah Guthrie on Monday.

The episode was just one of several recent Stone-Spice events, as members of the press have tried to get the actress to go bananas over her favorite band. Last Wednesday, Stone's visit to London's Capital FM led to her singing the band's "Stop" and receiving a FaceTime call from Sporty Spice, Mel C (aka Melanie Chisholm).

"I have to apologize for the Spice Girls hijacking all of your promos," said the singer.

"I'm so happy about it!" said Stone in a shaky voice. "I don't want to be hijacked by anybody else!"

In late March, the actress was nearly brought to tears during an Australian interview when Scary Spice Mel B (aka Melanie Brown) appeared in a video message directed at her. The "America's Got Talent" judge told Stone, "I want to say I absolutely adore you. ... And I want to say thank you for being such a Spice Girl fan."

Then Mel chided Stone gently for being more of a Baby Spice fan, and said Stone's "punishment" was to sing a Spice Girls song. Stone leaped right into "Wannabe."

But so far, Stone has not yet met a Spice Girl. Someday, Emma, someday.

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" opens in theaters on May 2.
