I'm beginning to think so.When Jean Chretien took over the government reins his most ernest promise was that he would get rid of the GST a highly visible tax that Brian Mulroney had introduced. Mulroney did it for a reason he wanted people to be able to see where their tax money was going and said it many times as he proceeded to sell and then pass the idea into law. He also noted that people were going to be very upset and he was right about that.They fired him.Nevertheless Chretien, in spite of all his promises, never touched the tax and I'll explain why.Mulroney inherited a debt from the Trudeau years which was massive.
