Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister of the UK, gave a speech during the G8 summit to exhort Britons to stop wasting food. In a time of global food shortages and dramatic price increases on staples such as bread and rice, Brown said that "It is right to remind people that about 8 [$16] a week is wasted in our food consumption."
