Given the flurry of stories on Maliki lately, it looks like someone in the administration is setting him up for a fall (my money would be on Cheney and his neocon cohorts.) Rumor is he is to be replaced by Alawi 2.0: The Revenge. I'd be very careful if I was Maliki. I'd say he's about a week away from an 'unfortunate accident' or an IED, or ...? Here's a question. Do we even have a State Department anymore? Consider James Baker in Bush the Elder's administration. He was a prominent figure. Or Madeleine Albright in the Clinton administration, and to a lesser extent Warren Christopher. These were integral members of the administration. While you wouldn't see them all the time, they were in the news on a regular basis, holding meetings, making statements to the press, etc. The major piece missing in all of this seems to be a word we don't hear much anymore: diplomacy. Has anyone even seen Condoleeza Rice? If she doesn't turn up, the first place I'd check is Cheney's trunk. [ Full article ] |
