Vets' families come together to honor them |

By CYNTHIA NEFF DALLAS -- The Veterans Day program at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery didn't erase the hurt Charlene and Manuel Sauseda feel daily. But the Denton couple said being around others in the same situation helps them cope with the loss of their son, Army Spc. Ernie Dallas."We feel the same pain they have," said Manuel Sauseda, 57. "It's kind of a bond and it gives you a little bit of closure."Dallas, nicknamed "Scooby Doo" for his imitation of the cartoon character, joined the Army in 2003. He wanted to be a police officer, but knew his parents couldn't afford college. "He said, 'Mom, this way I can see the world, get my education and come back and do what I want to do,'" Charlene Sauseda said.Dallas was 21 when he was killed in Baghdad on July 24, 2005, by an improvised explosive device that struck the Bradley fighting vehicle in which he and three other soldiers were traveling."He would say, 'Don t worry, because everything is great until they come and knock on your [ Full article ] |
