There's something extremely satisfying about freeing a room of old, nasty carpet. Our bungalow has carpet various vintages of the 70s and 80s in every room of the house except the kitchen. Up first is getting rid of it as quickly as possible, so we can start to refinish the oak floors. There's nothing terribly tricky about removing carpet. It's just time-consuming. Three tools will do the trick a hammer, a pry bar either a multi-use tool or needle-nose plier. The first two are for bringing up the tack strips and the latter for getting rid of hundreds of carpet staples. After the first two rooms, the floors aren't in too bad shape. And I'm not coming across any ring-shanked nails, which I have in the past. That's like using a cruise missile to swat a fly. One mystery yet to be sold is whether there might be tile original we pray in the kitchen or first-floor bathroom. Stephanie says tile in the bathroom, I'm saying both kitchen and bath.
