What Do You Think??? Am I Wrong? Are the Candidates Thinking About the Moderates? or Just “The Base?”

If any of you are history buffs, tell me what you think about this thought: Last night as I watched Senator Obama speak at the University of Wisconsin, my alma mater, I had a few thoughts. First, what enormous enthusiasm he generated !!! The Kohl Auditorium on the Wisconsin campus was filled to the brim!! It was amazing! In each speech I have heard, he discusses Iraq - and positions himself as the anti war candidate. Then? I thought about Sr. Mary Richardson …my 9th grade history teacher (yes, the one who gave me a D…and don’t tell me you never got a bad grade!! I know I am not the only one…and, frankly, that was not the only D I ever got!!) Because of my less than scholarly behavior, the only thing I remember was her constant (daily) refrain “a man who fails to study history is condemned to repeat it.” This was pre Title 9, and a time when women were just emerging in the work place so her refrain did not include women.
