The future of film lies in the hands of ironically Microsoft and Sony. With the imminent explosion of New age DVD players in conjuction with HD TV, it seems Hollywoods big players want to get their hands on the new technology and create a new war of competition. Sony’s Blu-Ray Disc seems technically superior to DVD Forum and Microsofts HD DVD, with the blu ray holding a storage capacity of 50 GB, compared to HD DVD’s 30. Blu ray also has an impressive 22 hours worth of playback to HD DVD’S 13. But the real battle will come with Hollywoods big film studios and their exclusivity with the rival DVD players. Both are supported by Paramount, New Line Cinema, Dream Works and Warner Bros. Though Blu-ray technology is exclusively backed by Columbia, MGM, Disney and 20th Century Fox, whearas HD has Universal in its corner.
