TX-Sen: Our own baseline poll

Research 2000 for Daily Kos. 9/24-26. Likely voters. MoE 4% (No trend lines) If the 2008 election for U.S. Senate were held today, would you to reelect John Cornyn, would you consider voting for another candidate, or would you vote to replace Cornyn? Reelect 40 Consider 15 Replace 35 If 2008 election for U.S. Senate were held today, for whom would you vote for if the choices were between Rick Noriega, the Democrat, and John Cornyn, the Republican? Cornyn (R) 51 Noriega (D) 35 Those reelect numbers are anemic as all hell, and while he's above that "50 percent" mark, he doesn't have much room to spare. The "Noriega" and "Replace" numbers line up perfectly. It looks like the race will be all about peeling that "consider someone else" bloc away from Cornyn. Cornyn also scores poorly against voters over the age of 60 -- never a good sign for a candidate since those are the people most likely to vote. We'll keep an eye on this one and see if we can get Cornyn under 50 percent.
