The list of idiotic television that I watch? Wipeout. Dude, you take some of the aspects from Ninja Warrior, you'd think you'd take more of them, but no, it really is largely about balls. Big ones. To the extent that one of the two horrifyingly smug announcers signs off by saying, "Good night. And big balls." Mostly, it eliminates the competitive element at first, then becomes mystifying as to how the competition part works. Is it possible to get through any of the obstacles without failing? And, if so, why not just swim the entire course? Why bother to try to get past that wall that punches at you if there's not a real way to do it? And where, my friends, is the honor? The honor is the best part of Ninja Warrior. Okay, maybe second to awesome face plants, but it's what makes those face plants worth it, by contrast. I don't even know if you win any money for conquering the Ninja Warrior course. But you do win honor, an alien concept to this show, which is more about making fag jokes [ Full article ] |
