I'm not really a fan of reality TV. The format of reality shows are often a bit too clunky and forced for my liking. Often, the outcome is undesirable... which of these idiots do you want to become wealthy overnight? Where's the 'none' option? Well, that's all changing. The Restaurant (BBC Two, Thursday, 8pm) is re-writing the rule book on what a reality show can do. The Raymond Blanc led show is probably the best reality show I've ever seen. It doesn't feel like a reality show. It's too classy for that. The outcome is genuinely exciting. The journey, although frustrating at times, makes for fascinating viewing and it doesn't appear to be letting up. Each twist and turn is met with an inventive project or challenge to show the strengths and weaknesses of each contestant. Surprises are thick and fast and the sense of importance hangs throughout every show.
