The future of the European model of Agriculture, its impact on rural communities and the food we all eat was debated by the National Forum On Europe on Thursday 20th September 2007. The plenary session in Dublin Castle at 11 a.m. was the first of the Forum’s Autumn public programme. The debate began with contributions from prominent Fianna Fáil TD, Martin Mansergh, Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness, a member of the European Parliament’s influential Agriculture and Rural Development Committee and Alan Matthews, Professor of European Agricultural Policy in Trinity College Dublin. The debate was then be opened up to the Forum membership which includes all the political parties and key civil society organisations.
