Maurice Tillet 1903-1954 Born in France, Maurice was highly intelligent and could speak 14 languages. In his twenties he developed acromegaly, a rare disease that causes bones to grow wildly and uncontrollably. Soon his whole body was disfigured as a result. The result of this rare informity cause much pain. Maurice was often teased and made fun of as a young adult. As a result Tillet fled from his homeland, heading to America, where he started his professional wrestling career. He was nickednamed the “freak ogre of the ring”. After arriving from France his villian character “The French Angel” was instantly appealing with the crowds. The pivital point of Tillet’s wrestling career was when he wrestled Steve “Crusher” Casey for the American Wrestling Association World championship.
