This is a truly fabulous letter written by DAMIAN ERASMUS, BLOOMINGTON. As Japan knows, a nuke or two can bring peace I gathered from Steve Andreasen's column ("A nuclear arms policy for the 21st century," Aug. 27) that he believes that the use of nuclear weapons is counter productive to providing peace. However, one large piece of history that he failed to mention -- or conveniently forgot -- was the nuclear use at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One of the most noble American acts brought the end to a devastating war and saved millions of lives. DAMIAN ERASMUS, BLOOMINGTON Anyone of a sane mind, a reasonable person, a person with common sense, can not argue with this letter writer. The object of war is to win, with as few casualties to your side as possible. The atom bomb succeeded in doing that for the allies.
