The Art of Handwriting

This weekend, wandering around my neighborhood bookstore, I couldn't help but notice that handwriting is all the rage in Art & Design these days. What once made SARK novel is now becoming a very hip way to communicate across the pages. Check out this recent title from Chronicle Books entitled Listography. Author Lisa Nola invites readers to record their lists on various topics both in this workbook style book and on her website of the same name. Clever illustration and simple titles (written in what appears to be pencil) invite the reader to dive in to this playful form of (handwritten) autobiography. Another new handwritten favorite of mine? Kate Bingaman-Burt of Obsessive Consumption.com. Her work appears in Michael Perry's Hand Job: A Catalog of Type.
