GIMP is an abbreviation for GNU Image Manipulation Program. Not like image editing software Adobe's Photoshop, it is freely used and distributed under the GNU General Public License. GIMP is written and developed under X11 on UNIX platforms, but the same code can run on MS Windows and Mac OS X. As I am a long time Photoshop user, so far it wasn't downloaded and installed on my computer. Maybe some day when feeling boring with Photoshop, sure I will have a trial of GIMP.
