Stats Shmats is easy ...Continuing where I left off, here are my three remaining unreachable milestones. 2,632: Cal Ripken Jr.'s consecutive games played streak.Ripken, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame this year, shattered Lou Gehrig's record by 502 games when all was said and done.Miguel Tejada's 1,152-game streak ended on June 21, 2007 and he didn't even get halfway to Ripken's record. 4,256: Pete Rose's career hits total.Baseball's 'Hit King' may have the most attainable of these five milestones. However, assuming Derek Jeter finishes the season at 2,350 career hits, he would have to average a whopping 238.25 hits per year over eight seasons.This milestone may not be so attainable after all. 5,714: Nolan Ryan's career strikeouts total.Ryan pitched in parts of 27 seasons and eclipsed 300 strikeouts in six of them, including the single-season record of 383 in 1973.Johan Santana is the active player who many believe could set some amazing marks, with 1,310 [ Full article ] |
