Woods scorches Southern Hills, fires 63 en route to a 3-shot lead |

The temperature was not the only thing that was hot at Southern Hills C.C. in Tulsa Oklahoma this Friday afternoon. So was Tiger Woods and his putter. Woods made eight birdies and a single bogey on the day en route to a 7-under 63, just one off of a Major Championship record. Woods had a 15-footer for birdie on the tough 18th hole, which spun 270 degrees around before lipping out. “I knew if I made that putt on the last hole it would have been a nice little record to have,” Woods said. “A 62 is all right.” Trailing Woods going into Saturday's third round is Scott Verplank, who shot a round of 4-under 66 to play with Woods in the final group on Saturday. Followed by him are Geoff Ogilvy, and Steve Ames at 3-under and Woody Austin at 2-under. Pat Perez, Nicolas Fasth and John Senden round out the players at 1-under.
