For our readers in the United Kingdom, news that everyone has been waiting for has finally surfaced regarding the infamous 40Gb PS3. Sony UK has finally laid to rest rumors of a PS3 price-cut and along with it, confirmed the existence of a 40Gb unit. While this may seem like great news for those who wish to own a PS3 without having to sign over their first-born to Sony, the news of the elusive 40Gb PS3 is a double edged sword - although it will only cost the consumer 299, it is NOT backwards compatible. That being said, for those who wish to purchase the higher end 60Gb model, the price has dropped to 349. Sony announced that the said PS3s will launch on October 10th in the UK. The existing Starter Pack for the PS3 will be replaced by a new Value Pack featuring a fully functioning 60Gb PS3 with extensive backwards compatibility, a SIXAXIS wireless controller and two first party titles.
