It’s being reported that Sony has filed for a US patent for an interface that would apparently allow the connection of a wireless Sixaxis controller to a PSP. Now, we can’t be sure what this means, since Sony is keeping quiet. However, there are a couple of possibilities. The system could be used to allow games that utilize two analog sticks to be played on the PSP. It could also allow the PSP to offer up specific in-game features for the PS3, like a rearview mirror for racing titles, or a radar for shooters, to be displayed on the PSP. The new, smaller PSP will even incorporate a digital output that will allow PSP games to output to your TV, which brings even more PSP / PS3 compatibility ideas to mind. Whatever Sony plans to do with this technology, one thing is certain. They haven’t given in to the prevailing hype that their console is a lost cause.
