Stringer: “The Turning Point Has Been Passed” |

The 40 GB PlayStation 3 is a success, or at least that's how Sony and CEO Howard Stringer are viewing it. In the week ending November 11, the PS3 sold more than 100,000 units, which is a terrific number when put in comparison with the totals we've seen the PS3 output in prior months. There still remains work to be done, but Stringer believes this is a good sign for the company. “It’s the breakthrough we’ve been anticipating,” Stringer told the AP. “We’ve been holding our breath.” Previous weekly totals typically fell in the 30,000 40,000 range, so suddenly moving 100,000 in a week is a great accomplishment. “Obviously, we’ve taken so much heat over the year on PS3,” Stringer said from his office in Tokyo. “Finally, the turning point has been passed.” Stringer didn't say the success was due entirely to the introduction of the new SKU, but the luck granted upon Sony by Nintendo and its inability to keep up [ Full article ] |
