The Afghan President wants to talk to the taliban---hmmmm----this is the taliban who kill hostages, torture prisoners without mercy, burn down schools, repress women and young girls, set road bombs to kill the afghan people. One would have to assume that the Afghan President has some idea of what he is doing in taking this first step, but I am full of negative feelings on it all. I understand he needs to try, to reach out, to assure his people he is doing something after such terrible times, which seem unending. Defence Minister Peter MacKay says cooperation with the taliban must come with conditions. [ Full article ] |
