From the New York Post: There are signs that Torre will be brought back since some members of George Steinbrenner's Inner Circle want to invite Torre to the organizational meetings. If he was a lock to be fired, that wouldn't be discussed.Since Steinbrenner issued an edict last weekend that the Yankees not getting by the Indians would cost Torre his job, The Boss created a forum for players and fans to support Torre. According to a person in the know, Steinbrenner was affected by Mariano Rivera going to Brian Cashman Wednesday and backing Torre and he is aware of how Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada and Alex Rodriguez feel about Torre.
