This is a small film theory book that has been with me ever since film school. It is a book on film theory that no film maker or film student should be without. My teacher at film school gave me his own personal copy of this book. Not sound sappy, but it meant a lot to carry around film book that he had carried through college. The book was in bad shape to begin with, but now it is tattered and held together by duct tape. I have used it more than any film reference book that I have. Small Film Theory Book If you buy any of the books that I have recommended on this blog it should be this one. It will get you through film school all the way to a PHD in cinematography. If The Elements of Style Illustrated is the guidebook for fiction then, The Major Film Theories is the guidebook for film. You can get find more information on the book here.
