Slow Attachment Saving in Outlook |

Q: Microsoft Outlook 2003 used to be snappy. I'd open mail, click links, open attachments, all without problem. But lately I've noticed that when I try to open an attachment, say an MS Word document, it seems like it takes nearly a minute for the file to open. Or, if I want to save an attachment, it takes nearly a minute for the directory tree to open so I can choose a location. If I decide to open a folder in the directory tree, there's another minute of wait time. I thought the problem might be that my Outlook files, particularly PST file, were getting too large. So I ran the archiver and got some reduction. I then went into Outlook and deleted email (received and sent) that was more than 18 months old. That was quite a bit of email that I trimmed off. But still my problem persists. I've also seen the problem with Word. I have a Dell XPS 410, 2.4 Ghz Core 2 cpu, 2 GB memory, Windows XP Pro SP2, 320 GB hard drive (240 GB free).
