Eredux.com is a relatively new site that has a goal of empowering individuals to become more Earth friendly by providing tools and resources to foster neighborhood-level social networking about the environment. They have a page, "California Energy Consumption Statistics & Maps" that shows both the good and the bad news about our emission of carbon dioxide, one of the major greenhouse gases. The good news is that California has a per capita "Carbon Score" ranking of 46 out of the 50 states. Vermont leads all states as having the lowest carbon output per capita, followed by Rhode Island, New York, Idaho, and then us. The bad news is that as the state with the largest population in the nation, each California resident produces 11 Tons of CO2 per year, making us the second highest in total pollution amongst the 50 states.
