It's the holiday season and you know what that means. Time to invite the CEO over for dinner. The move from VP to SVP didn't come cheap, pal. But don't panic. The Financial Times -- of all places -- has the recipe you need to survive this meal. Here's our 100-word version. Here's FT columnist Lucy Kellaway's advice, condensed:My husband once invited his business backer to dinner. The dinner I made tasted like petrol. Our amusing friend got drunk. Terrible. Do better. Be clear about the point of this dinner: to create goodwill. Be excessively nice and welcoming. Ask questions and listen to the answers. Laugh at his jokes. Invite safe but uninspiring people you owe dinner to. Serve something you serve often. Buy lots of nice wine. Serve dinner promptly so the evening can end early.Help your wife prepare. Cook it yourself if you can. Say "thank you" often. Promise never to do it again. (Photo by styleserver) [ Full article ] |
