Ever ask a Red Sox fan if they have forgiven Bill Buckner yet? Ever ask them if they blamed Grady Little for keeping Pedro in too long? Ever ask what happened to the twilight of Roger Clemens’ career the reason the Red Sox jettisoned him so he could go on to win not one, but two World Series with the rival Yankees? The fact of the matter is the present day Red Sox “fan” doesn’t have the first damn clue as to the answer of such questions. These events were before their time. Ask them about something that happened since 2004, they might have a shot. The story of Red Sox fans used to be an admirable one. “Cursed” by Babe Ruth for 86 miserable years, masochist Sox fans lived and (always) died with their team year in and year out. There was a certain quality to these fans.
