Hosiery: A barrier between the foot and shoe that provides additional protection from rubbing and discomfort. Overshoes: Also known as galoshes, these shoe covers are often made of rub and protect from elements like rain or snow. Shoebag: A protective bag placed on shoes when they are not being worn. Shoehorn: Guides foot into shoe by keeping show wide open and providing a smooth surface for the foot slide on. See photo at right. Shoe insert: Padding slide into the inner linings of shoe that cushion, provide better fit and reduce rubbing. Inserts are made of various materials and can also help correct foot problems. Shoe laces: Usually laces up the middle and helps to make feet more snug and protected. Shoe polish: A wax material that is buffed onto shoes, leather in particular, to protect and enhance the outward appearance.
