So now Barry Bonds has 754 homers, one shy of tying Hank Aaron for the all-time lead. When he gets the record, most fans, however impressed or pleased they might be, will acknowledge the new mark as the record the 'roids built. If there's a human being on the planet who thinks Bonds didn't knowingly juice himself up to cartoonish proportions over the past decade, well, that human being really isn't here on Earth after all. Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig was on the telly the other night telling reporters that he's been to eight of the last twelve Giants games; that he, despite remarking earlier in the season that he might not even care to watch a surely tainted home-run standard set despite the historic nature of the moment, had made "a Herculean effort" to be there for the swing of all swings.
