When Is a Trade Demand Not a Trade Demand? |

The Sporting News article that broke the Shawn Marion/Lamar Odom trade rumor included, deep within the conversation, the following quote: "I wanted to retire a Phoenix Sun," [Marion] said. "That would be nice. I think everyone would like to play their whole career for the team that drafted them. But sometimes it comes to the point where you just have to take that step and move on. It's like a bad marriage. It doesn't matter who's right or wrong, both people should just move on." But for some reason, they led with the "Marion would welcome trade to Lakers." Isn't a trade rumor more compelling if there's a demand involved? While I guess Marion's quote in the Arizona Republic was more explicit, there's not much room for ambiguity here.
