With all the controversy surrounding the title of Nas’ next studio album title, it was easy to miss that today marked the release of the Queens MC’s Greatest Hits, which archives his career from 1994’s Illmatic probably the best debut in hip-hop history to 2004’s Street Disciple. Nas gave a detailed track-by-track analysis of the album to Rolling Stone’s Evan Serpick in which he recalled coming of age alongside hip-hop greats like Eric B., hanging with Q-Tip in the projects, putting Lauryn Hill on “If I Ruled the World,” striking a Jesus pose with Diddy for “Hate Me Now” and much more.
