Filed under: Obits & Memorials Ernesto Alonso (1917-2007) - Mexican actor (pictured) who was a regular fixture in the golden age films of Julio Bracho, Alfredo Crevenna and Emilio Gómez Muriel. He also narrated Bunuel's Los Olvidados and appears as Eduardo in the filmmaker's version of Wuthering Heights and as the title character in his The Criminal Life of Archibaldo de la Cruz. He appears as himself in a documentary titled Speaking of Bunuel, which is included in Criterion's release of The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. Beginning in 1959 he turned to a career in television, for which he acted, directed, produced and shot Mexican soaps, earning him the nickname "Mr. Telenovela." He died of pneumonia August 7, in Mexico City. (Variety) Franz Antel (1913-2007) - Austrian filmmaker who directed Casanova & Co. and Der Bockerer and its two sequels. He died August 12. (Yahoo!)
