So I finally got to watch the Nova special on the Dover trial and I was pretty disappointed. There were some good things and some bad things about it, but the most obvious criticism is that the dramatic reenactments were pointless and very badly done and they just took time away from what could have been a lot of very interesting discussion of a lot of issues from the trial that they either oversimplified or skipped over completely. The scientific content was excellent for the most part. The segments on Tiktaalik were very well done, but had they not wasted so much time on the bad acting and the courtroom scenes they could have gone further with that and answered the ID arguments about that fossil. The key fact, which they never mentioned, was that the ID crowd, while professing not to be bothered by common descent, reacted to Tiktaalik with the same arguments as the creationists who reject common descent.
