Reuters has no byline on this small item, but it’s worth noting for the striking pictures alone. Sixteen cypress trees are in the sun for the first time in about 8 million years, freed by miners from sand covering a coal seam. Some of them are several meters high and their wood is still more like wood than stone. It means things were warmer there, back in the Miocene.
