Republic: Underreporting of $2 million by Clean Elections merely an “irony” |

Where was the front pages news? Never having covered the $2 million dollar reporting error as the news it is, the Republic attempted to do so with a bit of humor and a ton of deception in their tongue-in-cheek column of rumor and innuendo called Political Insider. Political reporter Matt Benson refers to the massive underreporting, as fun with numbers. Kudos to the Arizona Capitol Times for reporting this issue as real news. The deception came in the form of including this quote of Executive Director of Clean Elections, Todd Lang: Clean Elections already goes easy on candidates who've made a simple bookkeeping mistake with no intention to deceive. In the Republic s coverage-lite, Lang was able to blame the inadvertent mistake on an unnamed new staffer. Tell that to former state Rep. David Burnell Smith (R-Dist.7) who holds the dubious distinction of being the only American elected official removed from office by way of this scheme. It was the Clean Elections [ Full article ] |
