If you go to queer film festivals, you probably see a lot of really sucky short films. This is a reality of the queer film festival, same as if you frequent poetry open mics you're going to hear a lot of sucky poetry, recited in that awful up-and-down cadence I like to call poetry voice.' But it's been one week since I viewed the Crosscurrent' shorts program at Fusion 2007: The 5th Los Angeles LGBT People of Color Film Festival, and I'm still thinking about how totally excellent the movies were. And since they're bound to hit your local queer film festivals, I want to give you a heads up about it! Fighter is a film by my friend Sharon Barnes. Sharon became my friend when she practically moved into my home in order to shoot a documentary about my ex-boyfriend, Katastrophe. I was with her most of my days, a microphone snaked up my shirt, feeling like a reluctant reality television star. The film is called State of Katastrophe and it is bound to be done at some point.
