Poor coverage of shoddy religion coverage |

The ABC News news magazine show 20/20 messed up big time. In a March episode the show showed a video clip of the Los Angeles-based Crenshaw Christian Center founder The Rev. Frederick K.C. Price stating that he lives in a 25-room mansion, owns a $6 million yacht, a private jet, a helicopter and seven luxury cars. The problem for ABC News is that Price wasn’t stating facts about himself. It was a hypothetical and those facts are not correct. The Los Angeles Times coverage of this story is rather flippant and fails to serious dig into either the legal issues or religious doctrine present in the story. Instead the author Alana Semuels decided to take a flippant approach and disregard and serious coverage of the matter. Price has sued 20/20, 20/20 co-anchor John Stossel, ABC News and the network’s owner Walt Disney Co. for unspecified damages.
