"Plotting for Beginners" Looks At A Year In (Mid)life |

This isn't a review, because we haven't read this book yet. But when a well-reviewed novel about midlife pops up in early August, we'll let you know about it so you have time to order it and stuff it in your carry-on as you head out on vacation. We're talking about "Plotting for Beginners" by Sue Hepworth and Jane Linfoot. The rough structure is that fifty-something Sally Howe has a year to herself at home in England while her husband seeks ... something in Colorado. While she attempts to write her first novel she faces a host of odd events and odd people. The book's UK publisher says "'Plotting for Beginners' offers a wry evaluation of long-haul marriages, plus a lesson on how to hit the menopause running and seize your freedom when the family has gone." The Times (London) calls it "unpretentious and amusing."
