McCain's Chameleon-like religious devotion Formerly Episcopalian John McCain now identifies as a Baptist during a campaign swing through South Carolina, where fully 45 percent of the population similarly identity as Baptists. He is apparently conflicted by his revelation, after telling McClatchy Newspapers in June he found the Baptist church more fulfilling than the Episcopalian church, but still referred to himself as an Episcopalian. On Saturday McCain was asked by Associated Press how his Episcopal faith plays a role in his campaign and life. McCain grew up Episcopalian and attended an Episcopal high school in Alexandria, Virginia. “It plays a role in my life. By the way, I’m not Episcopalian. I’m Baptist,” McCain said. “Do I advertise my faith? Do I talk about it all the time? No.” Maybe the reason is, he's not sure which faith he embraces. [ Full article ] |
