She was, from what I could tell from the tone of her email, basically at her wit's end about what to do. More importantly, this woman (who shall remain anonymous) asked for comfort more than for advice. Having a miscarriage is essentially the worst thing, emotionally as well as physically, that most women face. Never mind that the statistics show that as many as 15--20% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. Never mind all the words of wisdom and experience posted all over the web offering helpful how-to's on avoidance, spotting the symptoms of one and what to do about it when you do. Those tips only serve to provide the woman with a sense that she is in control of her miscarriage. Which is, in and of itself, a terrible thing.
