More state nonsense

First, we had ‘civil partnerships’. The state didn’t want to offend religious types, so they stopped short of calling it gay marriage. But co-habiting couples piped up, so now they propose something for them that isn’t a civil partnership, and isn’t a marriage. This is a perfect example of how the state ‘fudges’ everything, and should stay the fuck out of peoples lives. The problem with civil partnerships is that, like all laws aimed at tackling discrimination, they do, by their very nature, just shift the discrimination over to somebody else. OK, so now gay couples aren’t faced with the problems of inheritance, decisions about their partner when medical consent is required, etc. However, Miss Miggins, who is a spinster who lives with her elderly mother to whom she devotes her life, still has these problems. I would advocate the complete separation of the state and religion. The states role would be that of recording legal partnerships
