It's about this time of year when many people in my position develop a love-hate relationship with that omnipresent power-that-is, Student Finance Direct. For those not in the know, this god-like giver and taker of money, also known as the Student Loans Company, rules over most students' lives more than anyone that isn't a student would care to admit. We spend hours filling out those huge books (they call them forms, but with that logic you might as well call 'War and Peace' a leaflet), answering questions about our course, our living arrangements, our parents' income and so on ad infinitum. Months later, after (their) sending and (our) receiving of much paperwork, we finally receive a letter with the loan amount they've decided to bestow upon us for the year, broken up into the amounts we'll receive each semester, and a schedule of the dates we'll receive it on.Here's where you start to either love or loathe them - and as far as I can tell, most people round here are pretty pissed [ Full article ] |
