How is one meant to keep Justin Bond’s identity straight?There’s his alter ego of nearly 20 years, Kiki DuRane, a self-described boozy chanteusie, who’s propelled the cabaret act Kiki and Herb through sold-out shows at Carnegie Hall and a Tony nomination and earned Bond a coveted spot as the Queen of New York’s downtown scene. There’s the acting Justin ( Imaginary Heroes and Shortbus) and the singing one (with his band The Freudian Slippers). There’s Justin the Cat Fancier (as per his occupation listing on his MySpace page). And, then - taking his professional schizophrenia to a new level of meta-meaning - Justin-as-Kiki-as-academic subject (a New York University graduate student has written a thesis on the complexities of DuRane).
