Larry Craig is not a victim

So far the consensus in the liberal blogosphere (even for some wingnuts) is that if not for homophobia, Larry Craig would have been free to indulge in gay sex without guilt or shame and would not have needed to live a lie. People don’t go as far as to pity him because of Craig’s anti-human rights stance. I disagree with this consensus. Though I do not deny that homophobia keeps some gays in the closet, I do not believe -and evidence seems to point that way- that Larry Craig was a victim of homophobia. I do not believe that Craig is ashame of his sexual preference, because he doesn’t show any evidence of knowing what shame is. Larry Craig wasn’t a hypocrite about his homosexuality because society made him feel guilty. He’s a hypocrite because he’s a moraly corrupt individual. He doesn’t go for public bathroom sex because society won’t allow him to have a same-sex partner, but because he lacks the empathy he would need to have any
