Well, I was wrong. Although it's hard for me to imagine that the police set out to injure people, and I'm sure some instigators instigated, the police, through poor decision-making, made matters worse. Those hurt are claiming "emotional distress" (legal lottery) and their lawyers are circling the dead dolphin in the water, which makes me lose some sympathy, but they deserve money for injuries and lost time and wages, at least. By the way, I didn't blog about it at the time, but deputy chief Michael Hillman came to my Army reserve base in Los Alamitos last month and gave an excellent speech on "life or death" decision-making. Really, one of the only PowerPoint presentations I've stayed awake for. After his talk, I asked him about the incident and he told me that they messed up. [ Full article ] |
