"Deciders" are extraordinarily poor at considering let alone planning and implementing change. It's insulting to even ask them. The more extreme versions are stuck in a rut. And they don't do diplomacy. I co-wrote an article about the five stages of radical change that describes this problem. We often hire or elect "Decider" leaders because they fit an antiquated notion of what a leader should be - decisive, consistent, insistent and certain. Yet those very characteristics become liabilities when the problems at hand require inquiry, versatility, collaboration, and openness. What to do? First, Democrats need to recognize that "Deciders" don't listen to outsiders - even millions of them called voters. So you have to reach the Decider where he lives. You have to latch on to what HE says that works for you and drive it home.
